Taking Care Of Your Skin When You're Stuck At Home

Most of us are stuck at home at this crazy time in life, here are a few skin tips to help you keep up your at home skin care routine and show your skin a little extra love.

So COVID-19 has currently seemed to take over the world and our everyday lives... but we have to remember this too shall pass. All we can do is stay at home (if we have this ability) and wait out this craziness in order to protect ourselves and those around us.

Take this time to care for your mind, body and soul. The more proactive we are, the better we will be in the future.

There's a serious virus going around, and that means... isolation!!! Funny thing is, if you have a chronic illness or any experience with Lyme Disease then you already know what isolation is all about...so just hunker down at home with your favorite tea, yoga mat, meds, immune supporting herbs, Netflix binge-watching list and don't forget the skin care!

Here are some things you can do at home to continue keeping up with your skin routine:

Keep cleansing twice a day

Yes, just because you're home for an extended period of time doesn't mean we can get TOO lazy with our cleansing routine. After all, you still build up sweat, oils, and dirt on your skin even if you're just sitting at home. Plus, you can sweat in your sleep, touch your face unknowingly and it's also just healthy for your skin... so cleanse away!

Get that mask on girl

I feel like most people I know who are trying to get into skin care usually say, "I just don't have the time"...but you do now so get to masking! If you don't have a skin care mask already that you love, try whipping together a little honey and greek yogurt and letting that sit on your skin for 10-15 minutes. The honey acts as a humectant and draws moisture into the skin, while the greek yogurt has naturally occurring lactic acid that gently exfoliates even the most sensitive of skin types.

Hydration is key

When we are stressed or under times of intense changes, our skin goes through A LOT! One of the things that can happen is that our skin can become dry and dehydrated, so don't forget to moisturize morning and night using your favorite serums, moisturizers, or oils. Another big part of keeping your skin hydrated is drinking water, so please drink a lot of water throughout the day to help your cells continue to function as best as they can and keep your skin looking healthy!

At home facial massage, yes please!

Massage has been proven to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS), this system helps us conserve energy and relax. Even light massage movements from the face down to the neck can really release a lot of tension that you didn't even know was there! My suggestion is to use your favorite facial oil (jojoba oil is a great simple option for all skin types) and give yourself a 5-10 minute facial massage every morning or night (or both!). I have a "SKIN" Highlight on my Instagram with some great tips and the video linked below is one of the best beginner videos I've found!

I am wishing all of The Holistica Hive and the world as much love, strength, healing and peace through this chaotic time. Kindness and compassion for others is what will get us through even the darkest of times, so please take care.
